Psalm 31:  For enemies or neighbors who are slandering or lying

A Psalm of David

In thee, O Lord, do I put my trust; let me never be shamed: deliver me in thy righteousness.

  1. Bow down thine ear to me; deliver me speedily: be thou my strong rock, for an house of defense to save me.
  2. For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name's sake lead me, and guide me.
  3. Pull me out of the net that they have laid privily for me: for thou art my strength.
  4. Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O Lord god of truth.
  5. I have hated them that regard lying vanities: but I trust in the Lord.
  6. I will be glad and rejoice in thy mercy: for thou hast considered my trouble; thou hast known my soul in adversities;
  7. and hast not shut me up into the hand of the enemy: thou hast set my feet in a large room.
  8. Have mercy upon me, O Lord, for I am in trouble: mine eye is consumed with grief, yea, my soul and my belly.
  9. For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing: my strength faileth because of mine in iniquity, and my bones are consume.
  10. I was a reproach among all mine enemies, but especially among my neighbours, and a fear to mine acquaintance: thy that did see me with out fled form me.
  11. I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind: I am like a broken vessel.
  12. For I have heard the slander of many: fear was on every side: while they took counsel together against me, they devised to take away my life.
  13. But I trusted in thee, O Lord: I said, Thou art my god.
  14. My times are in thy hand: deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me.
  15. Make thy face to shine upon thy servant: save me for thy mercies' sake.
  16. Let me not be ashamed, O Lord; for I have called upon thee: let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in the grave.
  17. Let the lying lips be put to silence; which speak grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.
  18. Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men!
  19. Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence for the pride of man: thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.
  20. Blessed be the Lord: for he hath shewed me his marvellous kindness in a strong city.
  21. For I said in my haste, I am cut off from before thine eyes: never the less thou heardest the voice of my supplications when I cried unto thee.
  22. O love the Lord, all ye his saints: for the Lord preserveth the faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer.
  23. Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the Lord.
Psalm 35:  To plead your case

A Prayer of David

Plead my cause, O Lord, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me.

  1. Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for mine help.
  2. Draw out also the spear, and stop the way against them that persecute me: say unto my soul, I am thy salvation.
  3. Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul, I am thy salvation.
  4. Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul: let them be turned back and brought to confusion that devise my hurt.
  5. Let them be as chaff before the wind: and let the angel of Lord chase them.
  6. For without cause have they hid for me their net in a pit, which without cause they have digged for my soul.
  7. Let distruction come upon him at unawares; and let his net that he hath hid catch himself: into that very destruction let him fall.
  8. And my soul shall be joyful in the Lord: it shall rejoice in his salvation.
  9. All my bones shall say, Lord, who is like unto thee, which deliverest the poor from him that is too strong for him, yea, the poor and the needy from him that spoileth him?
  10. False witnesses did rise up; they laid to my charge things that I knew not.
  11. They rewarded me evil for good to the spoiling of my soul.
  12. but as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth: I humbled my soul with fasting; and my prayer returned into mine own bosom.
  13. I behaved myself as though he had been my friend or brother: I bowed down heavily, as one that mourneth for his mother.
  14. But in mine adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together: yea, the objects gathered themselves together against me, and I knew it not; they did tear me, and ceased not:
  15. With hypocritical mockers in feasts, they gnashed upon me with their teeth.
  16. Lord, how long wilt thou look on? Rescue my soul from their destructions, my darling from the lions.
  17. I will give thee thanks in the great congregation: I will praise thee among much people.
  18. Let not them that are mine enemies wrongfully rejoice over me: neither let them wink with the eye that hate me without a cause.
  19. For they speak not peace: but they devise deceitful matters against them that are quiet in the land.
  20. Yea, they opened their mouth wide against me, and said, Aha, aha, our eye hath see it.
  21. This thou hast seen, O Lord: keep not silence: O Lord, be not far from me.
  22. Stir up thyself, and awake to my judgment, even unto my cause, my God and my Lord.
  23. Judge me, O Lord my God, according to thy righteousness; and let them not rejoice over me.
  24. Let them not say in their hearts, Ah, so would we have it: let them not say, We have swallowed him up.
  25. Let them be ashamed and brought to confusion together that rejoice at mine hurt: let them be clothed with shame and dishonour that magnify themselves against me.
  26. Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour my righteous cause: yea, let them say continually, Let the Lord be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.
  27. And my tongue shall speak of thy righteousness and of thy praise all the day long.
Psalm 41: For the poor; for a healing of your soul

A Psalm of David

Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the Lord will deliver him in time of trouble.

  1. The Lord will strengthen him upon the bed of languishing: thou wilt make all his bed in his sickness.
  2. I said, Lord, be merciful unto me: heal my soul; for I have sinned against thee.
  3. I said, Lord, be merciful unto me: heal my soul; for I have sinned against thee.
  4. Mine enemies speak evil of me, When shall he die, and his name perish?
  5. And if he come to see me, he speaketh vanity: his heart gathereth iniquity to itself; when he goeth abroad, he telleth it.
  6. All that hate me whisper together against me: against me do they devise my hurt.
  7. An evil disease, say they, cleaveth fast unto him: and now that he lieth he shall rise up no more.
  8. Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me.
  9. But thou, O Lord, be merciful unto me, and raise me up, that I may requite them.
  10. By this I know that thou favourest me, because mine enemy doth not triumph over me.
  11. And as for me, thou upholdest me in mine integrity, and settest me before thy face for ever.
  12. Blessed be the Lord god of Israel from everlasting, and to everlasting.  A-men', and A-men'.
Psalm 67: For all nations

A Psalm of David

God be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause his face to shine upon us;

  1. That thy way may be known upon earth, thy saving health among all nations.
  2. Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee.
  3. O let the nations be glad and sing for joy: for thou shalt judge the people righteously, and govern the nations upon earth.
  4. Let the people praise thee, O god; let all the people praise thee.
  5. Then shall the earth yield her increase; and God, even our own god, shall bless us.
  6. God shall bless us; and all the ends of the earth shall fear him.

Psalm 86: For the poor and needy

A Prayer of David

Bow down thine ear, O Lord, hear me: for I am poor and needy.

  1. Perserve my soul; for I am holy: O thou my god, save thy servant that trusteth in thee.
  2. Be merciful unto me, O Lord: for I cry unto thee daily.
  3. Rejoice the soul of thy servant: for unto thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul.
  4. For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee.
  5. Give ear, O Lord, unto my prayer; and attend to the voice of my supplications.
  6. In the day of my trouble I will call upon thee: for thou wilt answer me.
  7. Among the gods there is none like unto thee, O Lord; neither are there any works like unto thy works.
  8. All nations who who hast made shall come and worship before thee, O Lord; and shall glorify thy name.
  9. For thou art great, and doest wondrous things: thou art God alone.
  10. Teach me thy way, O Lord; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name.
  11. I will praise thee, O lord my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify thy name of evermore.
  12. For great is thy mercy toward me: and thou hast delivered my soul from the lowest hell.
  13. O God, the proud are risen against me, and the assemblies of violent men have sought after my soul; and have not set thee before them.
  14. But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious, longsuffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth.
  15. O turn unto me, and have mercy upon me; give thy strength unto thy servant, and save the son of thine handmaid.
  16. Show me a token for good; that thy which hate me may see it, and be ashamed: because thou, Lord, hast helpen me, and comforted me.
