I have studied many faiths including that of fundamentalists for many
years.
The passages of Deuteronomy are often discussed in my work. I
have been a
minister for over 22 years and have very vast knowledge of the
Bible. I have studied the customs and idioms of the Middle East,
which by the way, without this knowledge, it is impossible to understand
the Bible. I encourage you to learn the Bible with Biblical
Scholars who have dedicated their entire lives to finding truth (unlike
many among the extremely, ignorant fundamentalist ministers, who preach the
so-called word of God).
Your own main library or State University may have the information
you need. I recommend looking for works by Dr. George Lamsa who
was one of the very few people to still speak the original language that
Jesus spoke and helped translate the Bible in the 1930's. He
received world renowned recognition for his works and President
Eisenhower honored him during his time in office. Also, Dr. Rocco Errico has
wonderful cassette tapes on this subject. Dr. Rocco Errico is a
former student of Dr. Lamsa and was a Catholic priest who later became a
fundamentalist minister (I believe in the Baptist faith) and then later
with his studies on the Bible moved away totally from fundamentalism.
From what I have studied, this is what I have learned about the
Deuteronomy attack:
- Deut. 18:19 "And it shall come to pass, that whosoever
will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I
will require it of him."
- Deut. 18:20 "but the prophet, which shall presume to speak a
word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that
shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die."
- Deut. 1821 "And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know
the word which the Lord hath not spoken?"
- Deut. 18:22 "When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD,
if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which
the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it
presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him."
In those days God was very upset with the people of that time
period. They had turned away from him and were praying to false
gods..idols etc. But as you will notice in Deut. 18:22 God did
not say all prophets were not to speak his word.
Remember, not everyone claiming to be psychic actually is nor is
everyone psychic also "spiritual". Every human being has
within them the potential to develop psychic gifts. There are
those who have information and use it wisely and those who choose to use
it unwisely. Information is not knowledge. Knowledge is
applied information. Wisdom is the result of living the knowledge
and proving it works in your life. Anyone can claim to be psychic
but few are truly dedicated enough to develop their spiritual
self. If all you are is psychic and do not know your spiritual self,
you can do little good for people or for yourself.
Deuteronomy passages still speak true today. Just look at all
those ridiculous "psychic hot lines" and the gypsy
fortunetellers who have been telling people they have spells on them and
that for so many thousands of dollars they have the power to take them
off! These are the kind of people Deuteronomy warned us
ab out..
Unfortunately, the priests in the temples in the days and years to
follow the death of Christ took all the power away from the people (claiming they were the only ones who had the power to heal and speak in
tongues, etc.) and made the people afraid to have these gifts
because they were now told if they possessed them in any form it had to
be of the devil for only God gave them (the priests) these gifts.
Because the priests of those days took away the power from the people
and claimed they were the only ones authorized to have gifts, many
people went back to finding answers for their own lives outside of themselves. Everything we have ever wanted or needed to know is
right inside us, but many of us have no clue of the power within so
the God-given power to be directed, guided, encouraged, loved and
inspired and to know this exists within us is merely an idea for
many. We seek out others who have gifts because we cannot find it
inside ourselves. Yet, it's always been there.
The truth is Jesus said to masses of people (not just his
disciples) (but everyone in the crowd that gathered as given in John
14:12) "Verily, Verily, I say unto you. He that
believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works
than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father." The New
Testament is filled with this kind of information.
You will want to order Patricia
Mischell's upcoming book
What Happens When We Die to receive more detailed information.
I will close with these words "Let this Mind
be in you which was also in Christ." God bless you on your own
very special path in life."
