I am inspired to write by the courage that other
women have in their writing. My first term in WWF(a) C, I wrote my
best after Barbara Tonne read a piece about her father and the accident
that changed her family forever. Because she could name this
story, and bravely sing parts of it, I wanted to share a part of my
story in words as compelling and beautiful. last term my best
writing was inspired by Robyn Breiman's reading a series of pieces in
response to a number of prompts we had both shared. In listening t
Robyn, I realized I had missed opportunities to create beauty. I
am sure I had good reasons, week after week, not to write. But
they weren't as good as the work Robyn produced. Because of her
reading, I knew I could share another piece of my own story in the
group.
It is not a competitive thing, this group, I do not
hear another's words and think. "I can do better." I
hear others' words and feel an energy which flows as a benediction on
the group. Each woman's act of bravery stimulates another
writer. This energy is completely unpredictable, but as real as
any other force in my writing.
The group also forms a receptacle for receiving
words. So often I write of things I think of as unimportant.
but I can bring those writings here, and there is a welcome for
it. This is incredibly empowering.
- Sandra Grady
My great passion in this life is to write. I
write in my daily journal and my dream journal. I write essays on
my computer, letters to my daughter, e-mails to family and friends
around the world. And for most of my life, I felt guilty taking
the time away from my other responsibilities to write. by becoming
a part of the writing community here at WWF (a) C I have found
justification for putting my words onto paper. My efforts here are
honored and respected; and I know that I am among many others who also
struggle to find a place in their busy lives for their writing.
Within the circle of our writing we share friendship and the honesty of
our words. Here I feel an energy that assures me that I am truly
alive when I write.
